Metal Building Bids Solicited By Missouri Fire Dept.
The Northwest Fire Protection District in Climax Springs, Missouri, is moving forward with station improvements.
With problems on the agenda for months, including termites and small bays, district officials have decided to build a new base.
The old station, which includes two bays and a meeting area, will be torn down. In its place, the district is planning a 40’ by 50’ metal building with three bays and a meeting space.
The board is still in the information-gathering phase, obtaining bids from contractors to try and get a better idea of the costs of the steel building.
Depending on what is most cost-effective, they may build on the old slab after making it thicker or starting fresh.
According to Chief Chris Krise, district officials are trying to move quickly to get the steel building project under way as soon as possible.
The board also received a sealed bid for flooring, but did not open it yet. Vice President Joe Conger said they would like to get another bid before reviewing and deciding on a company.
The garage door of the metal building at Station 4 is also in need of remodeling, Krise told the board.
He estimated it would take about $2,000 to complete the project.
“We need about a foot and a half. We’re going to go up as much as the metal building allows,” he commented. “We’re not lacking much, it’s just enough.”
Krise also reported that he moved a tanker pumper from Station 4 to 3. “We have three in full service now,” he noted.
In addition to these commercial metal building renovations, the district may soon be adding on to Station 1. The board has been receiving bids for that project, which would add a training area and sleeping quarters.
